Frequently Asked

Are you open to remote, hybrid, or in-person roles?

I'm open to all! I spent the last four years in a remote-first company, but opted to be hybrid when living near the office. I enjoy the company culture built in an in-person setting, and I've always been one to organize team get-togethers and volunteer days.

What does your onboarding process look like when you join a new team?

I seek out every resource. Documentation, Slack channels, website, help center, social — you name it, I'm looking to be like a sponge and absorb. I'll join meetings to listen and learn, and then I'll connect individually to gain deeper understanding. The first few weeks are about learning and listening. Once I'm ready, I'll start testing and creating, getting eyes on content for feedback and iterating. The best way to get better is to get some no's early on versus hiding out.

How do you approach a content program that's starting from scratch?

While I use this term a lot, there's always some starting point. For me, it's starting at the end. Questioning what's the end goal, what's feasible in the timeline and budget, and what's good to launch and test before it's perfect, is a great way to build an initial plan. Next comes the team and how to build for them. If I'm starting fresh, it's figuring out the best working style for the group, and any preferences for tools and process. Then, I typically look for all resources to help identify what already exists, and any other data sources we have at the ready to help inform the strategy. You're really never starting from zero!

You've worked across content strategy, SEO, science communication, and social — how do you think about your specialty?

My experience at a high-growth VC funded startup has afforded me so many opportunities to learn any skill or channel that presented itself. I'm a generalist by nature, and as one former coworker fondly expressed "the swiss army knife for content." I believe my range of skills and channel leadership gives me deeper empathy of my teammates work, and greater understanding of connectivity between channels. Most importantly, doing the work across each of these channels gave me a holistic view of marketing that I bring to every project.

What's a project you're most proud of and why?

It's got to be building out actually useful FAQs in the Sunday funnel. Making an expensive purchase is never easy, and it's much harder when the product is complex in nature (enter: a complete season of lawn care). I worked in partnership with customer experience, product and data science to build customer data-driven FAQs for the funnel, resulting in immediately higher conversion in A/B testing, and creating a new way to approach the customer during the purchase decision.
